TBR Writer is a newsletter focusing on two things: reading books and trying to write one, while working full-time.

This is about the joy and journey of both creative acts.

I’ll talk about the books on my shelves (including children’s fiction and many other genres) and I’ll discuss the journey of writing my own novel.

You should subscribe to this newsletter if you also:

  • like to read books

  • like to write

  • want to talk about the books we’re reading

  • want to write a book while also working full-time (or have a full-time commitment outside of creativity in general, like caregiving)

Here’s what this newsletter will not be.

  • It will not be full of flowery book reviews. Yes, I will review books, but no, this is not a literature analysis course.

  • It will not be pretending to have all the answers about writing a book

  • It will not dismiss the challenges of reading and writing in a busy life

As a writer on any subject, I have always valued transparency and vulnerability over fluff. I hope you’ll want to join me on this journey to reclaim creativity for myself, while I navigate corporate responsibility.

If this sounds like your vibe, will you become a free reader and share this as a note?

Your online friend seeking community,
Chanel Riggle

A little more about me:

I am a Christian, wife, mother, and sibling. I am the head of marketing at a nonprofit. I wake up to a couple cups of coffee and spend the beginning of my days with a Bible reading before I dive back into fiction.

The core of my writing or plotting time happens in short spurts during lunch breaks or moments in the bleachers while my daughter exercises. The endings of my days consist of a little reading but mostly it’s for my daughter’s appetite for stories.

My WIP (work in progress) is a story about a woman who loses her aunt (who adopted her) and is forced to move back to her small town to deal with the aftermath. At the same time, she’s confronted with the man she left behind ten years before. Overall, she must decide if she’s going to change her beliefs about what success and independence look like moving forward.

Please introduce yourself! You could share the book you’re currently reading or what your favorite genre is too.
